looking for a Coleman Kayak? - Find Out What to Look for in an Inflatable Kayak First!
A Coleman Kayak is an awesome inflatable kayak that is practical, affordable and a great way to have fun on the water. In this report I elaborate some of the changes at Coleman and why you won't find Coleman Kayaks in market like you used to. I'll also elaborate the advantages of inflatable kayaks and what you need to know before you buy one.
What Happened to the Coleman Kayak?
In 2007 Coleman acquired Sevylor and made valuable improvements to it's line of inflatable kayaks and canoes. One major convert that confused me, and maybe a few other consumers, is that if I wanted a Coleman kayak, I had to buy a Sevylor! other big convert that happened just this year was the open of the Sevylor Quikpaks. These clever inflatables fold up into a backpack for easy carrying to hard to get places. Portability is just one of the great advantages of an inflatable kayak.
3 Reasons to Buy an Inflatable Kayak
If you live in the city and still want to own a boat, inflatables are perfect. You can store them in a closet!
Lightweight, contract and easy to converyance - most will fit in the trunk of a car (no need for a car rack) and some, like the Sevylor Quikpaks, you can even carry on your back!
Easy to use - great for experienced kayakers and novices like.
7 Things to reconsider When choosing an Inflatable Kayak
Inflatable kayaks are more garage than solid kayaks, but they are not as good on flat water so make sure yours is fitted with rudders or skegs for great tracking.
Some very cheap inflatables are made of un-reinforced vinyl. These are great pool toys, but are not much use everywhere else. The great inflatables are made of Hypalon-coated fabric tubes or have encapsulated air-cells. These are stronger and will stand up to higher pressure when inflated making them more rigid and easier to control.
Inflatable kayaks come in 1 and 2 man models so think about how you want to use yours.
You can also buy 'sit inside' or 'sit on top' models. People who fish often prefer the 'sit on top' kayak.
One tasteless complaint with inflatables are the paddles that come with them. You might want to buy your paddles separately to get the type you prefer.
Most inflatables come with a foot pump, but battery operated pumps are cheap and far easier to use - well worth the added cost for many!
And finally, if your inflatable doesn't come with a mend kit, get one and all the time take it with you! Good inflatables are robust, but punctures do happen!
